A Week Of Evangelism & Outreach!

I can't believe it's already April!  It feels like yesterday I was plowing through summer making a million phone calls and raising a support team to provide me with the opportunity to serve on God's college campuses.  It has really been a journey and I definitely could not have done it without you all.  Even though it's April we've still got a lot of campus ministry left in the year!  We have only five Friday Night FOCUS's left and we are still getting visitors to meet, study with, and build spiritual friendships with!

Last week we had over 20 students and staff from Bellingham, Washington come down to Texas to be a part of SSI week!  Our students hosted them in their on-campus apartments and off-campus homes for a week of contact evangelism on our FOCUS campuses (Richland, Collin College, UT Dallas, and U. of North Texas).

Group of students from Washington that came down to participate in our evangelism week!  They were so grateful and  thankful to have spent last week with us!

Myself with Jake (one of the Bellingham students) on U. of North Texas' campus.  We were out for several hours doing contact evangelism on their campus talking to students about Jesus and spirituality.

Without your support, this week of campus outreach would not be possible!  You all are a part of something huge and wonderful that God is doing on his campuses -

Prayer requests:

- I have decided to come on staff with FOCUS for one more year and I need your prayers for guidance, wisdom, and boldness as I spend another year reaching out to students.
- Please pray for UT Dallas and the impact we are having on our college campus.
- We have over 60 students attending SICM this year.  SICM is our annual campus ministry training for students held in Washington.  Please pray for their safe travel and for the Spirit to speak to them during their stay in Washington!

Love you guys so much and thank you again for being a part of what God is doing on campus here!

Thankful For Parents!

This past Saturday night we had a very special night for our parents of the students in our ministry.  This was very encouraging for all of us to see and be a part of.  Too often in campus ministry we received a flood of new freshman students who are eager to learn, participate, and serve.  As a ministry we spend time with these students, invest in them, study the bible with them, and very scarily at times attribute their growth to our own efforts!  How sad for us to forget the brave men and women who helped raise these young adults for the first 18 years of their lives!

Landscape view of our UTD Parent Night!

This was a very encouraging night to be a part of and I want you all to know that none of it would be possible without your support this year.  Campus ministry is dependent on the vision of supporters like you who believe in the mission!

In these next few months please pray that God would provide me with direction and wisdom as I move into the remaining months of this internship.  I struggle at times with making big life decisions and this can be a troubling time for me.  Despite this, I look back on the last six years of my life and I am blown away at how God has provided for me when I just stay faithful to him!

Thank you all for being a part of this special year with me.  Love you all!

Winter Camp And More :)

Good Afternoon!

Hey friends, this year has gotten off to a crazy start.  First off, we kicked off our campus ministry year with our annual winter camp (see photos below).  This year we had over 400 students show up and participate in one of our most impacting weekends of the year.  I really wish every one of you could have been there to see it.

I had the opportunity to help lead worship this weekend at camp - here is a view from the stage.
Geoff Mumley, a campus pastor from Bellingham, Washington came down to speak to us on "The Kingdom of God".  He did such a great a job discussing elements of God's kingdom that we see in our everyday life but often neglect.  He said, "Without a proper relationship with God, we lose our peace." That statement was very moving to me and I hope it ministers to you as well.

View from the back - thanks to your support we brought over 400 students to our annual winter camp!
You are the reason we were able to pull this weekend off - thanks to your support and prayers winter camp was a huge success and God moved mightily throughout the weekend.  I cannot thank God enough for you and your commitment to being a part of what he is doing on his campuses here in the Dallas metroplex.  Please be in prayer for us as we move into our last few months of the semester.  This is a time when students begin thinking critically about their role in our ministry and big life decisions are going to be made - please be in prayer that Jesus will be made Lord in the lives of our students!

Thank you again and I wish you were all here to see up front what your support has done this year :) You all are GREAT!

The Start of A Great Semester!

Wow!  The break seriously flew by quicker than I expected.  But then again, it always does!

Our annual winter camp is approaching in just a few days and I was up late last night with my good friend Jonathan Seawright planning out all of the logistics for sound equipment, luggage, room reservation info, visual specifications, and other things.  Lots to plan for!
Planning winter camp with Paulo (top right),
Tim (top left), Jonathan (bottom right), and myself!
You should really see what we've got planned this year for camp - I am very excited to see all four campuses gathered together to praise God and worship his name.  This is truly one of my favorite times of the year.  It is also one of the most stressful times of the year for the FOCUS staff.  Please pray that we would be prepared and spirit led this weekend.

I wish you could all see first hand what your support this year has contributed towards.  It is a true blessing to have people like you in my life who are willing to be a part of what God is doing on his college campuses here in the DFW area!

You are all personally invited to attend our winter camp this year!

It will be January 18th through January 21st held at Sky Ranch Camp in Van, TX.

Please let me know if you'd be interested in attending!  I would love to see you there :)

Tis' The Season To Serve!

Students gather around all of the toys we gathered for our 2012 FOCUS Toy Drive!

This year for FOCUS we partnered with the Community Partners of Dallas to participate in their annual toy drive.  This service provides Christmas gifts for children and teenagers in Dallas ranging from age 5 to 18 who are from underprivileged families.  Some of these individuals are abused, neglected, or molested and are in desperate need of the Jesus' spirit.

FOCUS came through big and provided over 60 kids with their Christmas wishes this year and we dropped them off on Saturday, December 8th at their Dallas warehouse location.  The nonprofit organization was extremely grateful for our work and it was a real pleasure to help out those whose may not have the privileges and opportunities that we have.

Let's remember that this is the season to give and serve, not to receive and neglect.  Let us remember our God who came to serve and seek what was lost.  My prayer is that this holiday season we would do the same!

Have The Conversation

Good Evening!

The holidays are soon approaching and it's one of my favorite times of the year.  I love the joy and feelings associated with thankfulness and remembrance of what our Lord did for us through Jesus.  I hope and pray that this holiday season spurs us on to bless others.

I entitled this entry "Have The Conversation," because it is what God has taught me over the last couple of months.  There have been some challenging moments over the last couple months regarding students and leaders in our ministry.  These challenges have forced me to come out of my comfort zone and have the tough, challenging conversations that do not feel comfortable!

Asking/saying things such as, "So what did you think when I said/did that?", "What has God been teaching you about things you need to hand over to him?", and "When you did ______ it came across rude and arrogant, I don't think that was right.  Am I being crazy here?"

God is showing me that tough conversations are a part of ministry and we need to be prepared to have them if we plan on being effective servants in God's kingdom!  The gospels are full of conversations that are inconvenient and challenging involving Jesus.  Remember that Jesus said, "A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher." (Luke 6:40)

The call is to be like Jesus and that involves having the tough conversations!

Thank you again for your support of campus ministry and giving me the opportunity to be on this campus reaching our to a lost and dying world.

Happy Halloween!

Hey there,

About three months into my campus ministry internship I am learning to be efficient with the time God has so graciously given me because I definitely do not have much of it!  Campus ministry warrants a lifestyle that is purposeful and prepared for any kind of situation that arises.

After our peer team meeting (see August post) I found myself having a long spiritual conversation with an student leader who needed advice in a situation he is going through, a few nights ago I drove a student leader who had a minor concussion in a volleyball game to the emergency room with another leader in our ministry, I preached a sermon in our intern bible class on Tuesday, and am preparing to read the entire book of Luke for one of our assignments.  These are only a few of the things that are I am available to partake in thanks to your support for campus ministry! :)

To let you into my life a little bit I am posting a picture of my 'workstation' (and I use that term loosely) that consists of a few books I am reading for ministry and different notes and bible studies I am doing with other students.  Enjoy!

Please pray that myself and the other campus ministry staff here would finish our semesters out strong and not grow weary in doing good :) I am also having my wisdom teeth taken out this Friday morning so please pray for a safe healing!
